Safe2Say Letter to Parents
October 31, 2018
Dear Parents and Students:
We are one quarter way through the 18/19 school year! We have had a great start to our school year and I would like to congratulate our Smethport athletes, marching band, cheerleaders, and coaches on a great Fall sports season of competition, accomplishments, and fun. Special shout outs to District 9 Champions Connor Alfieri in golf and Christian Tanner in cross country. In addition to Christian, three cross country runners qualified for states, Darion Gregory, Jordan Pavlock and Jenna Gregory. Best wishes for success in the PA State Cross Country Meet. Our soccer teams went deep into the D9 playoffs with the boys finishing in second place and the girls advancing to the semi-finals. Our Fall sports co-op program with Port Allegany was a positive endeavor.
Our football team finished the regular season undefeated at 9-0! This is a major accomplishment. Congratulations to the team members, coaching staff, and head coach Adam Jack. Best of luck in the D9 playoffs and PIAA playoffs. We will need everyone’s support to reach the State Championship in Hershey the first weekend in December.
As we continue with our 2020 Vision to “Support the Child and Develop the Student”, we will be implementing several changes in our school community and developing our comprehensive plan to implement over the next three years.
Final punch list items from our renovations are nearly finished. We have new flooring in the high school, new stairwell treads district wide, new security entrances at both schools, a new exterior lock system, new lighting and HVAC work district wide, a new special education office, a new faculty and staff room, new restrooms in both schools, and air conditioning in the HS auditorium. When you visit our schools, please enjoy the improvements.
Student safety is always the number one priority and this year along with our new security vestibules and exterior security improvements, we are employing the Raptor visitor management system in both of our schools. Raptor will assist in documenting, screening and managing our visitors coming into our schools. Anyone visiting our schools and wishing to enter the buildings beyond the security vestibules will need to register through the Raptor system.
Educationally, we will be continuing to update our technology and revise our curriculums. We hope to have our Elementary STEM classroom completed and operational by the first of the year. We have started developing a new program for a School Wide Positive Behavior Implementation System. As part of this program, we are requesting district stakeholders to complete school climate surveys during the month of November.
When you get a chance to come into our schools and get involved in your child’s education, please take full advantage of the opportunity! Thanks for your support and call anytime. I am readily available to discuss your child’s educational program.
